Are people Who Can Delay Gratification More Successful?
Technology has given us ways of getting immediate answers and responses or just a "click" to submit your order. It seems harder now to delay gratification. It's not that people have a decrease in self-control, but there's more of an increase in temptation. A Stanford University psychologist wanted to understand how children develop the ability to delay gratification which is a critical skill for success in life. The results show that delaying gratification leads to kids who were able to handle stress, had better friendships, more determination, fewer substance abuse problems and had higher standardized test scores than those who could not.
